I believe that we all have the inner wisdom necessary for leading a life that is happy and rewarding. We are sometimes presented with challenges that can make it difficult to connect with this inner strength and clarity.
I provide individual therapy for adults experiencing a wide range of life challenges including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, co-occurring substance abuse/dependence, trauma recovery, relationship concerns, grief and loss, as well as the self-management of chronic pain and other chronic health conditions.
I have over 30 years of clinical experience, including practicing as a psychotherapist and serving as the Clinical Director at Community Counseling Center in Portland. In addition to my private therapy practice, I currently lead the Behavioral Health program at Portland Community Health Center.
I employ a strengths based approach that recognizes and builds upon your existing self-knowledge and skills. Though I tailor my interventions to meet your unique therapy needs, my work has been informed by several evidence based interventions, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A commonality of these approaches is a focus on Mindfulness, which can be central to healing and change. I help clients use Mindfulness skills to become more self-aware, strengthen self-compassion, and more fully enjoy every day experiences. Additionally, I provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist with the resolution of traumatic experiences and “stuck” patterns that may interfere with your quality of life.
In addition to serving the general population of adults, I have experience and expertise with Veterans, First Responders, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals, and Refugees and Immigrants.
I currently accept Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, Maine Community Health Options, Beacon, and Behavioral Health Care Program. I am also happy to discuss a self-pay fee if you are not covered by one of these insurance plans. In addition, I can provide you with an invoice to submit for reimbursement to your insurance or medical savings plan.
I welcome your phone call to discuss whether I would be a good fit to meet your therapy needs. I also value working collaboratively with healthcare providers as needed, to provide you with well-coordinated healthcare.
