State of the Art EMDR
8am-4pm at the Charles A. Dana Auditorium, Maine Medical Center
22 Bramhall Street
Portland, ME 04102 United States
Cost: $85.00 lunch is provided
This 3 session event provides participants with opportunities to hear from recognized experts, leaders, and innovators in the practice of EMDR Therapy. Topics will be related to attuned and efficacious use of the AIP model and Standard EMDR Therapy Protocol; applications of EMDR Therapy along with elements of DBT when working with high-risk clients; and use of EMDR Therapy in cases of traumatic or complicated grief.
This training will take place in three parts:
Keynote: “The Art of EMDR Therapy”- Roger Solomon, PhD
The Art of EMDR is the dance between client and therapist involving attunement, synchrony, and resonance. It is expressed through optimal dual attention stimulation (DAS) and understanding clinical choice points that maximize processing. This workshop will focus on maximizing DAS and clinical choice points regarding interweaving vs. staying out of the way, “pushing through” or containment, or going with an emerging memory or back to target.
Session One: “Integrating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and EMDR with Suicidal and Self-Injuring Clients”- Gary Loomis, LMHC, David Arbeitman, PhD & Ross Goodwin-Brown, LICSW
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has been shown to effectively reduce life-threatening and therapy interfering behaviors, which frequently prevent the use of EMDR therapy in healing the underlying trauma. This workshop presents our experience integrating DBT principles and skill building into the eight phases of EMDR therapy for safe trauma work with risky clients.
Session Two: “Utilization of EMDR Therapy with Grief and Mourning”-Roger Solomon, PhD
A framework for understanding the psychological processes necessary for the assimilation and accommodation of loss will be presented that can guide the EMDR
Clinician to processing the trauma associated with distressing loss and the obstacles that can complicate the mourning.
